THE ANGELS OF
ST. PETERSBURG

The writer Andrey Astvatsaturov wrote very precise words about these photos:

“Russian literature classics have repeatedly noted that the idea of St. Petersburg does not go well with the divine providence. Everything here seems to come from the evil one: the dark river, the gloomy sky, the chilly wind, the strict geometric regularity of the straight as a ruler streets... And a long night, swallowing the remnants of sullen days. Even the advertising lights and evening street lamps aren’t the remedy. After all, the devil himself lights them — only so as to show everything not as it really looks. But when the delusion dissipates — that happens on a fresh summer morning, — you can see the angels, ascended over the city roofs. Embracing the crosses in silent calm, they point with their fingers to the wide open sky, reminding us of the inconceivable sovereign plan and that we, who are ready to forget God, will never be forgotten by him”.
