The New Hermitage

Two materials met in one frame — the eternal marble and the short-lived polyethylene.
For me, this is a reflection of the current state of life. And maybe a story about the pursuit for harmony and beauty in the modern world. I took pictures for this series during the restoration on the Nikolayevsky Staircase.

These are the fragments of 19th Century Italian sculpture, wrapped in polyethylene sheets for the duration of the restoration work.
Since then I have exhibited this project many times, in the same conception of ultraviolet light and musical accompaniment.
The exhibition has been displayed at the ‘Ogi Street’ gallery in Moscow in 2003, at the Rossika Academy in London and in the attic exhibition space of the Winter Palace of the State Hermitage Museum, within the framework of the international conference named ‘Museum and the Art Market’.

The last exhibition was prepared with the participation of the ‘Vitruvius and Sons’ architectural bureau and the composer Evgeny Fedorov.
The images of the project are reproduced in the art edition ‘The New Hermitage’, which we released together with Indigo Hotel in 2014.
